Algeria and Sweden agreed on Monday here to deepen their cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research, notably through the exchange of visits and the organization of training courses for supervisors and students.
During a "contact seminar" held at the Houari-Boumediene University of Sciences and Technology (USTHB), Algerian and Swedish officials have voiced their willingness to strengthen the links between universities and research centers in both countries.
In brief remarks at the opening of the seminar, Sweden’s ambassador to Algeria, Carin Wall, highlighted the particular interest of her country in the field of higher education and scientific research in Algeria.
Wall noted Algeria’s "important" potential in the field of higher education, which has succeeded to build an "impressive" number of universities and research centres since independence.
Stressing the "excellence" of Algerian-Swedish traditional relationship, she voiced the wish to see more Algerian students in the Swedish universities and the research centres, as part of the cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, the representative of Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Assia Ababou, said that Algeria was "very interested" in Sweden’s expertise in Information and communication Technology (ICT) and renewable energies.
