Over three dozen students challenged the administration of the Catholic Antonine University by holding Muslim prayers on campus, local television station LBCI reported Tuesday. The Antonine Catholic Order established the private university in 1996, founding three campuses around the country. In a statement Tuesday, the university’s administration said the prayers were a direct challenge and provocation against the university’s beliefs and principles. “The administration of the university will take the necessary measures against those students who have violated the university’s rules,” said the statement. The Free Patriotic Movement called on Muslim students to abide by the university’s beliefs and values. In a statement, the Lebanese Forces said that since the university is a private one and all students made the voluntary decision to attend the Christian university, they should abide by its rules.
