Ashoka University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Michigan University on Wednesday to promote co-operation in curricular and faculty development. The university aims to offer global quality four-year undergraduate programme. The NCR-based university, building its fully-residential 25-acre campus in Rajiv Gandhi Education City near Sonepat in Haryana, said the four-year programme would be based on the US liberal education system, which is aimed at preparing students with the ability to think, communicate and work as a team. “With an objective to learn from the best, we have partnered with University of Michigan to emulate its academic pedigree and explore opportunities for learning, research and training for students and faculty,” said Ashoka University Founder Pramath Raj Sinha at the MoU-signing ceremony here. “The MoU seeks to promote co-operation in curricular and faculty development in order to create an Indian university with a focus on liberal education that is at par with global standards,” he added. Sinha said the University is scheduled to enroll the first batch of students in August next year and they will have to pay a hefty fee of Rs 20 lakh for the four years programme as tuition and food and accommodation charges. Michigan University President Mary Sue Coleman said: “We are pleased to partner with Ashoka University and assist them in their endeavour to create tomorrow’s leaders.” “Similar to our educational bonds in China, Ghana, South Africa and Brazil in recent years, we look forward to strengthening our presence in India,” she added.
