A university is launching a competition to win an “Ultimate Scholarship”, which would give the winner free tuition at the institution for life. Not only would the winner of the competition at Cardiff University have their undergraduate degree fees of £27,000 paid in full, but they would also be funded to do MA, MBA, PhD and continuing professional development courses. The total value of the scholarship is therefore at least £50,000, Cardiff said. In order to win the prize, applicants will have to “undertake a series of tough challenges, which will increase in difficulty” between now and spring next year, the university said. “The university will be looking for a student with outstanding passion, commitment and intelligence, reflecting its reputation as one of the UK’s leading academic institutions,” Cardiff said. The first rounds will take place online, while the final will “bring the best students to Cardiff University for a live head-to-head challenge”, the university said. Clues to where to find the first online round will be posted on at www.cardiff.ac.uk/thrive in mid-December, Cardiff explained. All finalists will earn a scholarship towards their undergraduate degrees. The competition is open to UK and European Union undergraduate students. Finalists must have received and accepted on a firm basis an offer to study at Cardiff. Louise Casella, director of strategic development, said that the competition provided “a fantastic opportunity to an exceptional student who can demonstrate the qualities which we seek in our applicants and which we nurture in our students”. “At the same time this initiative will reinforce our position as one of the most sought after universities amongst some of the most talented students in the UK.”
