The Lucknow University on Friday launched the certificate course in American studies. The course has been started by LU department of English and modern European language in collaboration with public affairs section of the US embassy. Launching the course, LU vice-chancellor SB Nimse said nobody can ignore the US and its culture in the present times. He said like the US, India is also a meeting point of varied cultures and there is a need to explore more programmes to promote a strong relationship between the two nations. Meanwhile, as a part of ongoing efforts to strengthen American studies, a two day workshop on Innovative Pedagogy for course content delivery of American studies curriculum. Eighteen experts on American studies from 14 places across the country participated in the workshop. Addressing the workshop, Joshua W Polacheck from US embassy, said, “Mutual understanding and cooperation would be essential for both countries which will define 21{+s}{+t}{+.}{+”} He told TOI that such programmes and course would help individuals to understand and learn about America’s culture, business model, theatre, movies, history and many other things and strengthen relations between the two nations. “Any intermediate student can opt for the course which would give them a professional edge in sectors like business, journalism, theatre, teaching, etc.,” said Prof Nishi Pandey, head of department of English and modern European language and workshop coordinator. She said though the course will begin from January, a large number of students have already evinced keenness in joining it. A poster exhibition, Picturing America, was also put at the workshop depicting the Black History Month, US Independence Day, American art and lifestyle. The posters were categorised into themes of leadership, freedom and equality, democracy, courage, landscapes, creativity and ingenuity. Source: Education News
