Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, has separately received Sharon Wilson, President of the Senate of the Bahamas, and Alix Boyd Knights, Speaker of the House of Assembly of Dominica.
Dr. Al Qubaisi discussed bilateral relations in various domains with them, especially activating cooperation and parliamentary ties with these countries. They also confirmed the importance of exchanging visits, parliamentary expertise, coordination and consultation regarding various issues of mutual interest.
While meeting with Wilson and Boyd Knights, Al Qubaisi reviewed the outcome and results of the Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament 2016, recently held in Abu Dhabi under the theme, ‘United for Shaping the Future’.
The FNC Speaker said that the summit has emphasised the significant role played by women, especially in parliaments, as they are assuming important posts that shape the present and the future of countries. She also stressed the importance of promoting parliamentary work for future challenges and cooperation between parliamentary institutions to achieve the aspiration of the peoples.
The President of the Senate of the Bahamas hailed the important initiative of FNC to organise Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, the Abu Dhabi Declaration and FNC's effective role to promote parliamentary diplomacy.
Boyd Knights hailed the pioneering step taken by the UAE in choosing Dr. Al Qubaisi as Speaker of the FNC, making her the Arab world’s first woman to be elected to the role.
She also confirmed the importance of the meeting which contributed to enhancing discussions about ways to boost cooperation between the two parliaments. She added that holding the summit in the UAE translates the UAE leadership's vision and approach.
