Ilyas Elomari, the Secretary General of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), has criticized the absence of women in Head of Government Saad Eddine Othmani’s negotiations with party leaders to form a government coalition.
Elomari, who met with Othmani on Tuesday to discuss whether the PAM will be in the coalition or opposition government, took to his Facebook on Wednesday to point out that Othmani’s negotiation team includes no women.
Elomari wrote, “if the absence of Nabila Mounib, Secretary General of the Unified Socialist Party (PSU) from the schedule of Othmani’s negotiations is true – it will mean that Othmani has excluded the only woman who heads a political party in Morocco.”
On Mother’s Day, which takes place annually on March 21, Elomari said that according to his remarks, he noticed that “the negotiations do not reassure the seriousness of involving Moroccan women in the political party’s decision and scene.”
“As a Moroccan citizen, what I fear is the repetition the experience of the former government, which made a political massacre against the principle of parity, which are enacted in the constitution and which everyone should strive to achieve,” Elomari added.
“Will the parties that participate in coalition government take their moral, constitutional and political responsibly in involving women in accordance to the principle of parity?” Elomari wondered.
Elomari went on to say that he hopes the government, which “all Moroccans impatiently wait – will bring a real effective parity for women.”
