Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, has launched the "Jawaher Medal of Honour" in recognition of those who have contributed to humanitarian issues affecting people worldwide or played a constructive role in building, nurturing and developing society.
The medal will be presented every year to an outstanding personality, who has made their mark locally and internationally, and the medal will be bestowed to highlight their contributions to humanity.
It also comes as part of a series of humanitarian initiatives by H.H. Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi, to honour those who have left clear imprints on the lives of people affected by war, conflict and poverty, and to recognize people who have made outstanding efforts in supporting humanitarian causes.
The launch of the medal is part of Sheikha Jawaher's continuous efforts to improve people’s living conditions and mobilise global efforts to support urgent issues such as poverty, education, child protection, women empowerment, refugee crisis, and non-communicable diseases among other issues concerning the world, regardless of nationality, race, religion and ideological backgrounds.
Sheikha Jawaher said, "There are many people who have worked tirelessly to improve and protect people’s lives - those who have strived to tackle human challenges that need to be addressed immediately in order to save victims of life-threatening crises, and enable them to lead a dignified life. With this medal we want to honour and recognise those figures and highlight their contributions to serve as role models of charitable work for others to follow."
She added, "Serving society and lending a helping hand to people in need is a religious and moral duty, therefore this medal will be awarded to inspirational people who have made a genuine difference to people’s lives. This award is to appreciate human values and the change one can make in someone’s life through simple and consistent efforts."
She also spoke about the current issues affecting the world and said, "I hope this award encourages privileged people to do good deeds and spread the culture of love, peace, sympathy."
Sheikha Jawaher pointed out that the medal is not limited to people in particular countries but will be given to any person in the world every year that has helped improved the lives of people in need and enabled them to live with dignity and also provide them with safety and stability.
She said, "Our local, Arab and international community has many honourable and inspirational people who devoted their lives and efforts to bring positive changes to the lives of millions of people around the world. There is no doubt that the medal is meant to recognise their huge contribution and tell them that we recognise your honourable work and appreciate what you do. We are here to encourage you to continue what you are doing."
The Jawaher Medal of Honour will highlight distinguished personalities who have contributed greatly to the development of their communities and those who supported and enriched the lives of children, youth, women and families, as well as those who contributed to uplift the vulnerable and underprivileged segments of society and strived for peace and prosperity.
