A judge set bail at $50,000 for a homeless woman accused of trying to sell her newborn boy at a Taco Bell restaurant in Vancouver, Washington. Heidi Knowles, 36, reportedly asked patrons to bid between $500 and $5,000 for the three-day-old infant, The Columbian, Vancouver, Wash., reported. Knowles made her first appearance in court Monday following her arrest last week on charges of attempted child selling, a Class C felony, and several outstanding warrants. Clark County Superior Court Judge Robert Lewis appointed a defense attorney to represent Knowles and set arraignment for July 29. The sheriff's deputy who arrested Knowles wrote in his report that she appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Her infant was turned over to Child Protective Services. Police have declined to reveal the baby's name and do not know who the father is.
