Parents charged in girl\'s fatal high-rise plunge

The parents of a four-year-old girl who plunged to her death from a building in the Al Qasimya area in Sharjah have been referred to the public prosecutor for trial, Gulf News has learned. The parents face charges of negligence. The Egyptian child, identified as Jeni Ameir Abdul Adheim Hussaini, fell from the window of her 15th floor apartment on November 19, allegedly due to the negligence of her parents, an official at Sharjah Police said. According to police, the girl\'s parents had gone shopping at a \"two dirham\" centre and hypermarket, leaving their two children — a four-year-old daughter and year-and-a-half-old boy — alone in their house when the accident happened. \"While they were enjoying their time shopping, they expected that their kids would remain sleeping until morning as they used to do every day,\" said the official. He said the parents had left a window open since most people have stopped using air conditioning with the arrival of the cooler autumn weather. Describing a possibile scenario preceding the accident, he said the girl may have climbed onto a table placed next to the window, tried to look outside and subsequently lost her balance and fell off. The police received a phone call about the accident around 1.30am on Friday. Police have accused the child\'s parents of negligence. \"Their negligence cost them the life of their lovely daughter. They even did not think about the risk of leaving an infant with the small girl.\" Both parents are on bail.
