Five teenage girls have been charged after they allegedly stole a car and crashed into a tree near Geraldton. A police spokesperson said police started searching for the girls on Brand Highway after they allegedly stole petrol in Dongara on Monday. Police say District Traffic Officers lost sight of the car after the 13-year-old driver spotted their marked car and sped away before crashing into a tree. The five passengers fled the vehicle and ran into nearby bushland before police arrested them. The driver was charged with reckless driving, stealing a motor vehicle, stealing petrol, failing to stop and having no authority to drive. Two 14-year-olds and two 15-year-olds were charged with stealing a motor vehicle and stealing petrol. They will appear in court at a later date.
