A baby in Sweden
Los Angeles - UPI

It's a medical first.
A baby in Sweden was born in September after his mother had a womb transplant.
According to doctors, the woman was born without a uterus.
The 36-year-old woman received the uterus from a 60-year-old friend.
Doctors said the baby was born prematurely, weighing just 3.9 pounds.
They also say the woman and her husband tried IVF to produce 11 embryos, which were frozen.
Doctors at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg then performed the womb transplant.
The woman had to take immune system suppression drugs to keep her from rejecting the uterus.
A year later, doctors said they implanted one of the frozen embryos and she was able to get pregnant.
The baby boy was born at 31 weeks after his mother developed re-eclampsia and the baby's heart rate became abnormal.
Both the baby and the mother are reportedly doing well.
