711 women have been convicted of criminal activities in Yemen over the last year, an Interior Ministry report has found, 50 of whom were involved in murder in 2012. The report, published by Internal Security Information Centre, suggests that Yemeni women have committed 1.7 percent of the total crimes this year, which makes 2012 a record year in terms of female criminal activity. Female criminality was most highly concentrated in Sanaa, where 174 women were accused. In Western Sanaa, the province of Hodeidah ranked second with 136 accused, and the southern city of Taiz where 122 women were accused. 279 crimes were distributed in 16 other Yemini provinces. The only provinces that were free from female criminality were Beyidah in Saada.
