Ten Iraqi policewomen have been sent to the United States to join a police training programme set-up by the US Department of State. The initiative comes in collaboration with the Iraqi Police Education programme and the Ministry of Interior to boost female police training. The US Embassy in Baghdad announced in a press statement on Thursday that the women will participate in American police field training. The trip also aims to expose them to American culture and the opportunities women have there. The statement added that they would also receive training in criminal investigations and forensics. The embassy expressed its hope that the program would prove successful, asserting that it is a necessary step to tackle violence against women in the country.
