H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, has directed Dr. Maytha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State to get first hand information on the woman and child issues in the Republic of Kosovo. The move comes in line with Sheikha Fatima's interest in providing full support to women and children at the local, regional and international levels. During her visit, Dr. Al Shamsi accompanied by Kosovo's Minister of Health, Dr. Ferid Agani, was briefed at the Teaching Hospital in Pristina, on the healthcare at paediatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics sections, in addition to the cancer treatment section. Al Shamsi also visited the SOS Children's Villages International that cares for children. She praised the efforts of those in charge of the village, wishing them success in their mission. She also visited medical organisation, which cares women who suffer from trauma after the war in Kosovo. Dr. Al Shamsi met President of the Republic of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, who praised the role of Sheikha Fatima on supporting woman and Child, referring to her outstanding role at the international level. Jahjaga stressed that Sheikh Fatima's follow up of woman and child issues in Kosovo "reflects her great personality", noting that women in Kosovo appreciate Sheikha Fatima's efforts that contribute significantly to strengthening the relations between the two countries.
