The Egyptian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Faiza Abu Al Naja, said that “The Egyptian government will not borrow foreign money that comes with conditions. It has also decided that we will only be borrowing money for profitable projects.” Abu Al Naja told Arabstoday that she has prepared a special report on social and civil organisations receiving foreign funding. She has given the report to the Minister of Justice. Abu Al Naja says that the report has found that many groups in Egypt receive foreign funding without the government knowing, marking a considerable risk to the country’s national security. Abu Al Naja argued that many of the countries that provide funding to Egyptian groups have their own hidden agendas. When asked about being nominated for elections, Abu Al Naja said: “I would never nominate myself for elections as I am already responsible for two ministries. That’s more than enough.”
