London - Arabstoday

The scheme celebrates the best of musical theatre and is a unique opportunity to be heard and seen by producers, directors and agents from around the world. For the first time ever, non-professional singers and performers were offered the chance to be part of the acclaimed scheme, and Aimie captivated both audience and jury to win the £5,000 prize. I really think we witnessed the birth of a star. I thought she was extraordinary. Michael Ball, Voice of Musical Theatre judge She came through a series of auditions run by BBC New Talent and was one of 15 people selected to work alongside top industry professionals in a three-day boot camp. She progressed through the rounds to the final in Cardiff where she sang numbers from Wicked, The Wild Party and Funny Girl. The judges, including Elaine Paige and Michael Ball, were wowed by her performance and Aimie was named BBC Radio 2's Voice of Musical Theatre! Aimie, from Stevenage, was about to start a performing arts course at the Arts Educational School. Just 19-years-old when she won, she was already running her own theatre school. Alongside the £5,000 cash prize, Aimie also recieved a package of career boosters - including BBC broadcast engagements, casting potential within the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre, plus a demo recording opportunity with UCJ. Since her win, Aimie has been invited to audition for several shows, including High Society. Since winning the award, my life has totally changed. I'm going for auditions all the time, meeting all these amazing people. It's not an impossible dream any more, now it could actually happen. Aimie Atkinson, Voice of Musical Theatre 2006
