A Canadian design company says its new smartphone app can tell you when it's time to stop on the way home from work and buy milk for the fridge. In conjunction with a sensor-equipped milk jug sitting in your fridge that can monitor its own milk level, the app by Teehan+Lax will let you check how much milk is left or receive automatic alerts when the level is low, NewScientist.com reported Friday. In Canada, milk is often purchased in bags and then poured into a jug in the refrigerator, so Teehan+Lax added a weight sensor to the jug that communicates with the Android app, letting you know it's time to pick up some more. The app will even pop up a map listing the nearest shop selling milk, the company said.
