Al-Azhar has slammed a criminal act committed by Daesh terror group against an historic church in Mosul, leaving several people dead and injured.
"Such acts are incompatible with the divine teachings and human values and are meant to sow discord and spread chaos," Al-Ahzar said in a statement on Wednesday.
The attack on the Mother of Aid church involved exploding the building.
Ahzr reiterated denunciation of terrorist acts by Daesh and other terrorist groups worldwide.
Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayyeb held a meeting with Iraqi Fiqh Council Ahmed Hassan Al-Taha in Cairo.
Tayyeb called on the Iraqi people to close their ranks, stem Iraqi bloodshed and prioritize the country's national interests.
