China's authorities issued a document requiring state-owned cultural enterprises to focus on creating products with positive social influence.
The document, released by the general offices of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council, said these enterprises should place positive social influence above economic returns.
The document said their creation activities should be led by the socialist core values and serve the people, calling for an array of competitive cultural enterprises to promote socialist culture.
The evaluation mechanism of these firms should be improved to prevent overemphasis on ticket sales or viewer numbers, said the document.
The document warned that licenses of state-owned cultural enterprises that produce content of wrong orientation or which are poorly managed could be revoked.
