The Indian Embassy in Cairo celebrated Monday night the 50th anniversary of the Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Program.
The ceremony was attended by former communications minister Maged Osman and a large number of Egyptian scientists and students who were offered training courses in India.
In his address, Indian Ambassador in Cairo Sanjay Bhattacharyya lauded Egyptian-Indian relations and reviewed the history of ITEC, highlighting its economic and diplomatic importance for both countries.
By this program, launched in 1964, India targeted sharing its developmental knowledge with other countries, especially the southern and developing countries, Bhattacharyya said.
ITEC offered 280 training courses through 47 institutions working in different fields, including information technology, administration, monitoring, electoral management, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the diplomat added.
As part of this program, more than 500 Egyptians took part in training courses in India.
