President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Saturday President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
In statements on Saturday, Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Alaa Youssef said Sisi asserted during the meeting the importance Egypt is attaching to the UN and multilateral international action.
Egypt is keen on developing the role of the UN so as to confront international challenges, Sisi said, asserting that Egypt was also willing to contribute to establishing peace, security and stability worldwide, according to the spokesman.
UNGA president, for his part, praised the vital role of Egypt in the Middle East region, considering Cairo as a pillar of stability and security given the fact of its continuous involvement in various regional crises.
Thomson also appreciated Egypt's participation in various UN activities and international fora as well as its defending of African and developing countries' issues.
The presidential spokesman also said the meeting reviewed the latest regional developments, adding that President Sisi underlined the importance of enhancing international efforts to reach a political settlement of all regional crises so as to guarantee unity and territorial integrity of war-torn countries.
The meeting also covered means of enhancing international efforts to achieve sustainable development agenda for 2030 especially in the African countries to enable them achieve the national agenda of sustainable development.
