Dr. Mariam Fida, Director of the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) Unit at the Princess Al-Jawhara Centre, Arabian Gulf University (AGU), has recently participated in the annual American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Congress, which was held in Texas, US.
The ASRM Congress is considered one of the main gatherings worldwide in the field of Reproductive Medicine, with 9000 participants representing 91 countries taking part in this year’s edition alone.
"I am very glad to participate in an event at this very high level. It was of great importance, as I was able to learn more about the recent developments in the field of reproductive medicine in all its specialties," Dr. Fida highlighted while commenting on her participation in the event.
"Moreover, I was also able to hold several meetings aimed at exchanging experiences and exploring ways of cooperating with international companies to provide the type of genetic screening testing that is not available in Bahrain and designed to know the gene mutation of inherited recessive and dominant genetic diseases," she added.
It is worth noting that the ASRM Congress 2017 featured a lot of activities, including projecting the latest scientific research and tests in the field of reproductive medicine, and it provided a platform to exchange experiences among thousands of specialists. The event also included an expo for state-of-the-art devices used in this field, while the participants enjoyed taking part in several workshops held on the sidelines of the ASRM Congress 2017.
Meanwhile, Dr. Fida had the opportunity to meet the world's first test-tube baby Louise Joy Brown who was invited to participate in the conference to mark the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the introduction of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). It is worth noting that AGU is gearing up to launch the first Preimplantation Genetics Diagnosis (PGD) Unit in Bahrain to detect genetic abnormalities in embryos before implanting them into the mother. The opening ceremony is taking place at Al -Jawhara Centre on December 1 2017.
