Head of the Iraqi National Alliance Ammar al Hakim will pay a visit to Cairo next week at an official invitation from the Egyptian side, according to high-ranking Iraqi political sources.
The sources said Hakim will meet with senior Egyptian officials, including Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit, Azhar Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb and Pope Tawadros II.
Hakim's visit to Egypt comes as part of a tour that includes a number of Arab Maghreb countries to brief leaders of such countries on the developments of the political process in Iraq and the war on terrorism.
Representative of the Iraqi alliance in Cairo Mohammad Abu Kalal said the timing of Hakim's visit to Egypt is very important as the Arab region is witnessing unprecedented terrorist attack.
He also said Hakim is keen on bolstering Iraq's relations with Arab countries so as to serve the interests of both sides.
