Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is to visit Russia in August 2017 at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, according to Sudan's Foreign Ministry.
The visit aims to enhance bilateral ties at all levels, Sudan's Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour said in a statement Monday.
The minister said Russia is "a major supporter of Sudan in UN Security Council and other international organizations," and there is permanent coordination between Sudan and Russia at various levels.
Sudanese president is facing an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for allegedly committing crimes against humanity and genocide in Sudan's Darfur region.
Russia withdrew from the ICC in November 2016, saying the court focused on accusing Ossetian militias and Russian forces of committing war crimes during the war between Russia and Georgia in August 2008 and ignored what has been committed by the Georgian forces.
