Bryan Cranston has been cast as the lead in The Infiltrator.
The 58-year-old Breaking Bad actor will portray Robert Mazur, a real-life undercover agent. The film is based on Mazur's autobiography of the same name, and will be directed by Brad Furman. Cranston previously starred as Detective Lankford in Furman's movie The Lincoln Lawyer (2011).
The Infiltrator follows Mazur as he goes undercover as Bob Musella. The customs and excise agent assumes the identity of a savvy money launderer in order to bring corrupt Columbian bankers and mafia members to justice.
"Brad and I have invested a great deal of time ensuring that the casting on this film is absolutely perfect and we feel we've done just that," producer Miriam Segal said in a statement. "Bryan's talent is immeasurable and he continues to demonstrate his versatility and skill as an actor. The Infiltrator is a film that demands a dynamic and complex leading man and we could not be more excited to have him on board."
The Infiltrator will be filmed in London, Paris and Florida, and will begin production in January 2015. Cranston is also scheduled for Get a Job, Trumbo and Holland, Michigan.
