Dear White People released a red band trailer Wednesday.
The film follows four black students -- Samantha (Tessa Thompson), Lionel (Tyler James Williams), Colandrea (Teyonah Parris) and Troy (Brandon Bell) -- at prestigious fictional college Winchester University as they deal with and confront their white peers' racial insensitivity. The preview sees the students react to an "East-West hip-hop"-themed party on campus.
Dear White People is directed by Justin Simien, and won over audiences at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival with its satirical examination of racial identity, post-racial fantasies and cultural appropriation. The film opens in theaters Oct. 17.
