Elle Fanning will star alongside Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon in new drama Three Generations.
The 16-year-old actress will portray Ray, a New York City teen in the midst of transitioning from female to male. The film will follow Ray as his mother, Maggie (Watts), and lesbian grandmother, Dolly (Sarandon), come to terms with his decision.
Gaby Dellal will direct, with Nikole Beckwith as writer and Peter Saraf, Marc Turtletaub and Dorothy Berwin as producers. Watts, Leah Holzer, Daniele Melia and Peter Pastorelli will serve as executive producers.
Fanning most recently starred as Princess Aurora in Disney film Maleficent. The actress is scheduled for a number of upcoming projects, including Trumbo, How to Talk to Girls at Parties and A Storm in the Stars.
Watts last appeared alongside Bill Murray in St. Vincent. She will star in The Sea of Trees, Insurgent and Holland, Michigan in 2015, while Sarandon is scheduled for Mother's Day.
