Gael Garcia Bernal stars in the first trailer for Rosewater.
The 35-year-old actor portrays Maziar Bahari, a real-life London-based journalist arrested during the 2009 Iranian election protests and imprisoned for 118 days. The Iranian government accused Bahari of being a spy, and he was tortured during his imprisonment, largely blindfolded, by a man who smelled of rosewater. He was released on $300,000 bail in October 2009, and published a memoir about his experience, They Came for Me, in 2011.
Rosewater marks Daily Show host Jon Stewart's directorial debut. The film will make its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and opens in limited release on November 7.
