RLJ Entertainment says it has acquired all U.S. rights to the thriller Pay the Ghost, which stars Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage and Walking Dead alum Sarah Wayne Callies.
Written by Dan Kay and directed by Uli Edel, the movie is set for theatrical and video-on-demand release Sept. 23.
"The intense action and scares in Pay the Ghost will have audiences on the edge of their seats," Mark Ward, RLJ Entertainment's chief acquisitions officer, said in a statement Friday. "We can't wait to get the film into theaters this September."
"One year after his young son disappeared during a Halloween carnival, Mike Cole is haunted by eerie images and terrifying messages he can't explain," a synopsis said. "Together with his estranged wife, he will stop at nothing to unravel the mystery and find their son -- and, in doing so, he unearths a legend that refuses to remain buried in the past."
