Nicole Kidman will return to West End in Photograph 51.
The 47-year-old actress will portray real-life scientist Rosalind Franklin, an English chemist who contributed to DNA research in the 1950s. Franklin helped discover the DNA double helix, but her work was largely overlooked during her lifetime.
Photograph 51 is written by Anna Ziegler and directed by Michael Grandage, whom Kidman recently collaborated with on the film Genius. The play will run September 5 to November 21 at the Noel Coward Theater.
Kidman made her West End debut in The Blue Room in 1998. The actress' performance was famously described as "pure theatrical Viagra" by critic Charles Spencer, and Kidman later told the BBC the production was "the best experience [she's] ever had."
Kidman last appeared in Paddington, and is scheduled for Gertrude Bell biopic Queen of the Desert with James Franco, an adaptation of Kevin Wilson novel The Family Fang with Jason Bateman and an adaptation of Argentine crime thriller The Secret in Their Eyes with Julia Roberts.
