'I Have a Picture' follows the director's research of the history of Egyptian filmmaking as he is accompanied by one of the oldest extras in Egyptian cinema Mutawee Eweis. Eweis appears alongside his colleague and assistant director Kamal El Homossany, who he has a power struggle with throughout the film.
"Movie extras have always fascinated me. The people who work in the background of a film, as many are aware, are the most marginalised members of the cast. Extras cannot influence the action of the movie and are not given any room for expression," Zidan’s statement reads.
Zidan also took part in the Dubai Film Festival, entering 'The Mice Room,' which is a feature film made up of six segments, directed by six filmmakers from Alexandria.
The 71st Venice International Film Festival, organised by La Biennale di Venezia, runs in Venice Lido from 27 August to 6 September 2014 and is directed by Alberto Barbera.
