After the Vietnam War, Charles Hooks pursued his lifelong ambition of becoming a poet and author and began making his dreams come true. “Love is Poetry, My Dreams and A Tribute to My Dad” (published by Xlibris) is the fruit of his efforts, a literary debut made out of soulful verses evoking an array of emotions — happiness, sorrow, anticipation and longing.
“Love is Poetry,” the first part, contains poems highlighting the endless search for love and the pain of losing it. “My Dreams” talks about a man who thinks he is too old for love, who spent 25 years without anyone except in his dreams. His dreams are entirely different from the life he lives; it is a new world where happiness and love dwell. He vividly recalls his dreams through reflective literary pieces. The third part, “A Tribute to My Dad,” is a publication of five lost poems written by the author’s father, Boyd Hooks, in the 1950’s and 60’s.
“He too dreamed of publishing his poems but in past years his collection has been lost,” Hooks says. “He is gone now and I decided to put them in my book as a tribute to him.”
These and other poems emphasize intense emotions that stir readers and help them discover the purpose of living and loving. It will make them reminisce their first love, recall their dreams and make them dream forever.
