Having emerged from the shock of 9/11, author Robert McGee Jr. felt compelled to try and make sense of what had happened that day as well as of the world it created (and is still creating). Poetry was the consequence of that endeavor.
His new collection of poetry, “Haiku Composed in Awe:” (published by Lulu), contains 118 haikus that convey McGee’s thoughts on 9/11, government deception and corruption, corporate greed, war, as well as a variety of other topics.
Many of his poems are based on the concept of “Inconceivable Truth.” The more horrific the truth, says McGee, the less likely it is to ever be confronted. It is the cynical nature of that reality that is reflected in his poems.
“It’s a different kind of book that might challenge and perhaps even change the way people tend to think about such matters,” McGee writes. “There are so many people who are fed up with the way the government operates, and they should have no problem relating to much of the material in this book.”
Below is an excerpt from the book, “Haiku Composed in Awe:”:
“Of the Events of 9/11
That Were Never Plausibly Explained
Forces of evil
Difficult to imagine
Beyond al Qaeda”
