The "Armenian Airlines" Company opened its direct route between Beirut and Armenia on Sunday with the arrival of its first flight to Rafic Hariri International Airport carrying a ministerial delegation.
The delegation was received at the airport's honorary salon by Tourism Minister Owadis Kedanian, Armenian Ambassador Samuel Magardjian, Deputy Hagop Bagradounian, and ranking dignitaries.
"This is a vital day in the Armenian-Lebanese navigation relations (...) and there will be 89 flights between Armenia and Lebanon during this year," Kedanian said.
"This step is essential both for Lebanon and for Armenia because of the close and fraternal relations between the two countries and in view of the existence of the Armenian community in Lebanon," he said.
Kedanian thanked the Lebanese airlines (Middle East) "which began its flights to Armenia three years ago and is making more than one trip there especially during the summer season."
"This step is part of the promotion of navigation in Lebanon and within the framework of the 'low cost' strategy. This indicates the policy of open skies practiced in Lebanese civil aviation," he said.
