STRATA has started the first shipment of advanced carbon fibre aileron panels to Airbus for use in the long-range aircraft. STRATA is a new entrant in the composite aerostructures business and owns a production facility in Al Ain. The plant was opened in September 2010. STRATA CEO, Ross Bradley said that the delivery of advanced composite components represents a major milestone and will help the company to become a Tier 1 Airbus supplier to Airbus. STRATA will become the only supplier of composite aileron panels to Airbus’ A330 and A340 aircraft by mid 2012. This goal can be achieved through successful partnership of STRATA and Airbus. The shipment of components on time, budget and based on customer needs show STRATA’s initiative to attain a position in the aerospace industry, Bradley said. The Chairman of STRATA and Executive Director of Mubadala Aerospace, Homaid Al Shemmari commented that the company has made investments to develop the skills and expertise of UAE nationals needed for the development of the aerospace industry in the Emirates. The contract is part of a US$2.7 billion order book it has secured from Airbus.
