Manama - Arabstoday

Kuwait is to set up an airport office to collect fines imposed on people who cannot leave the country for failing to pay their dues. The office will help would-be passengers clear their way out of the country without having to leave the airport and go to specific locations in Kuwait City to pay the fines. Mohammad Al Duaij, Chairman of the Financial Fines Collection Team, told reporters that the state was keen on collecting the around KD 5 million ($18.175 million) that have accumulated over the last five years after people failed to pay fines. People who do not pay fines imposed by the court are not allowed to travel and may be imprisoned for a period not exceeding six months, he said, according to Arab Times daily.
