Travel operators in Oman have briefed travellers about new baggage rules at Dubai International Airport, which came into effect on Sunday.
According to the rules, bags without flat surfaces will be rejected at check-in at Dubai International Airport.
“People should also not use oversize or irregular shaped bags, otherwise they will have to be repacked in boxes for a fee,” a travel agent warned. A spokesperson of flydubai said that the new baggage rules will mostly affect Terminal 1 and 3 at Dubai International (DXB).
“In line with new baggage rules at DXB, if you’re travelling with checked baggage, please ensure that it is appropriately packed with at least one flat surface.
For further information about the dimensions and weight of checked baggage, guests can visit our website. However, arrival and transit baggage rules remain unchanged for now,” the spokesperson added.
This rule, however, does not apply to Abu Dhabi airport. “There are no changes. This is a Dubai Airports initiative, with nothing to do with Abu Dhabi Airport,” a spokesperson of Abu Dhabi Airports said.
According to Dubai Airports, the new baggage rule will improve service, reduce the risk of mishandlings, and enhance the performance of check-in and baggage operation at DXB.
