Barker ready for comeback
British middleweight champion Darren Barker says he is excited to take on Italy\'s Domenico Spada at London\'s Olympia on Saturday.
The
Barnet fighter faces Spada for the vacant European middleweight title after 12 months out with a hip injury \"I\'m really excited about it and eager to show the general public what I\'m made of,\" he told BBC London. \"It\'s fantastic. This was something I dreamt of as a kid, being top of the bill at a big venue like Olympia.\"
Barker won a gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and is unbeaten in 22 professional fights. \"Training has gone well. [I\'ve] been out for a year now, and I\'m really looking forward to getting back in there,\" he added.
Barker and Spada are ranked sixth and seventh respectively in the WBC rankings and Barker is not underestimating his opponent who has lost 3 of his 35 fights. \"He\'s my toughest opponent to date, definitely. He\'s ranked highly for a reason,\" he said.
The winner of Saturday\'s fight could have the chance of a World title fight later this year.
