Tunisia and Esperance player Youssef Msakni
Defending champions Esperance defeated Brikama from Gambia 3-1 on Friday, at home, to reach the CAF Champions League round 16.
The Tunisian giants survived an early scare
as Sawo put the visitors in the lead after 25 minutes but Wajdi Bouazzi 40, Youssef Msakni, 45 and Karim Aouadhi 72 reversed the situation to give the "Sang et Or" (Blood and Gold) a 4-2 win on aggregate.
In Sousse, Lassaad Jaziri struck late in injury time to give Etoile du Sahel a hard fought 3-2 win against APR from Rwanda.
Jaziri broke the deadlock in the 9th minute but the Rwandan side came back from behind to claim a 2-1 through Wadika, 39, and Fati, 82.
The hosts – who needed a win to go through after a scoreless draw in the first leg – produced an amazing performance that was rewarded by Hamed Namouchi 89 and Jaziri eight minutes into injury time.
