Christie's auction for Modern & Contemporary Art sale in Dubai hosts, in March 2017, Egyptian plastic artist Mahmoud Saeed (1897 - 1964). The upcoming auction will include six exceptional paintings of the artist Saeed, with the launch of a comprehensive book coupled with detailed explanations about him.
The book is the first guide for a plastic artist in the Middle East. An exhibition of Mahmoud Saeed's works scheduled to be organized also, that will include some of his most important works, which offered and sold at Christie's auctions in Dubai over the past decade.
The six paintings that will be present in the Christie's auction in Dubai (15 - March 19) are taken from the private collections of members of Mahmoud Saeed's family, and they are Mohamed Saeed They Zulfiqar; the nephew of Mahmoud Saeed, Ismail Mazloum; the cousin of Mahmoud Saeed, Dr. Hassan al-Khadem and Nadia Mahmoud Saeed, the artist's only daughter.
These six paintings represent more than four decades of Mahmoud Saeed's march with the drawing, starting from the plate of "Eid al-Adha" (approximately 1917), and then "the graves of Backus of Alexandria" (initial painting in 1927), the portrait Mohammed Pasha Saeed (in the twentieth century), introspection painting (1930), as well as the large painting "Aswan - islands and dunes", presented at the auction with the its initial preparatory painting, dated back to 1949.
These six paintings also showed a broad spectrum of Mahmoud Saeed's march with drawing, from religious rituals to family portrait, and from portrait of women to the picturesque nature of Nile.
The exhibition includes 14 painting of Mahmoud Saeed's work, which will be presented during the period from 15 to March 19, 2017 in conjunction with Christie's auctions week in Dubai. Some of these works was presented in Christie's Auctions, which was held from October 2007 until March 2016, when Christie's celebrated ten years since the launch of its auctions in Dubai. The exhibition will highlight the versatility of Mahmoud Saeed the portrait's drawing and in painting the nature.
