Tunis – Hayet al-Ghanami

Security services in Tunisia revealed numerous abuses and irregularities in many shops and stores after several inspections of shops open to the public, such as chicken shops, butcher shops, factories and other shops. During the inspections, dozens of tonnes of unfit for consumption food.

One of the specialists in food and water control at Pasteur Institute, said that the corrupt food constitutes about 15% of the causes of human diseases, especially meat, pointing out that the effects appear quickly according to the age of the consumer and the state of health.

He added that after the news about seizing of these corrupt and poisoned materials, the Tunisian is suffering from fear of the possibility of consumption of corrupt materials, and the result is the boycott of a large segment of society for red meat and poultry, or only to purchase it from certain stores, which are monitored by health control teams.

Despite the great efforts done by the economic control teams for several months to combat fraud and monopoly, but the situation is still serious as the seizure of corrupt materials is still ongoing.

According to the law, the materials that were seized should be disposed by burning for example. However, there have been serious abuses exceeded the excesses of those who trade in expired materials, as it was noticed that the quantities of materials that were seized were returned to the markets and distributed again instead of its disposal.

The spokesperson of Ministry of Commerce announced that the spread of some groups that seek to achieve material profit and enrichment at the expense of the safety of citizens, contributed to the spread of fraud. He added that these gangs are storing large quantities of expired meat, vegetables and other materials to sell it in the markets next Ramadan.

It should be noted that the gangs that sell such materials to the consumer, are cooperating with official parties to redistribute the amounts of corruption materials that have been seized.
