Israeli-American designer Elie Tahari
Turning 40 has its benefits. In honour of Elie Tahari’s 40th anniversary, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the City of New York have designated September 4 “Elie Tahari Day.”
City official Rob Goldrich will be joined by Joan Rivers in a presentation at Tahari’s pop-up shop at 510 Fifth Avenue where a proclamation will be read.
Tahari has invited Save the Garment Centre to share in the milestone and plans to donate $35,000 to the organisation from the dress created and sold at his boutique from Season 2 of “Project Runway All Stars,” in which Tahari served as a guest judge. Tahari is trying to raise awareness of the Garment Centre to help bring more jobs back to the city.
As part of his 40th anniversary, Tahari has created a capsule collection called Elie Tahari Edition 1974, which features updated iconic silhouettes from the past 40 years that will be shown during his spring presentation on September 10.
It will feature a modern take on the tube top, the jumpsuit, the power suit, the tuxedo and signature leather pieces. The items will be sold at Tahari boutiques, as well as his wholesale accounts in spring 2014.
Tahari also plans to raffle two tickets to his presentation, round trip transportation and accommodations at the Paramount Hotel to a contestant who “likes” the designer on Facebook and leaves a comment with #ElieTahari40.
