Studs and spikes may be corny but no one ever said they go out of style Studs and spikes may be corny but no one ever said they go out of style. They’re always fun to wear – whether they’re on a tiny clutch or all over your skirt like Kate Bosworth’s Burberry
Prorsum number seen at the house’s Fall 2011 show earlier this year.
Felder Felder’s Spring 2012 collection at London Fashion Week brings them back to regain the edge lost from last season’s candy-coloured mayhem – and takes them to a level that’s almost up there with bondage – but in an aesthetically appealing, non-creepy manner.
Imagine a Cavalli-esque evening gown with a bustier top and a sheer bottom panel slit up to the hip, but instead of the usual gold and leopard print, is covered in tiny spike-like embellishments. With sexy cuts and an overarching gothic mood, you couldn’t ask for a finer - and more literal - interpretation of femme fatale.
Thin studded leather straps wrapped around the body in bondage-esque ways also ramp up the styling of some of the safer numbers, which are then finished off with thick chain-and-leather collars, wrist cuffs and spiked leather heels. Busy abstract prints, set against a pale shade of green, somehow gave us an idea of what goths would look like if one day they decided they go to Hawaii and soak up some sun.
