The Duchess of Cambridge in her Alexander McQueen wedding dress
The Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress helped raise $15 million in ticket sales as a record number of visitors paid to see it at Buckingham Palace, newly-released figures show. Over 620,000 members of the public
attended the display, which focused the gown as its centrepiece, with visitor numbers rising 52 percent higher than that of the previous year.
"Unprecedented numbers came to see the Duchess' wedding dress, as the centrepiece of a special display celebrating the role of British design," director of the Royal Collection Jonathan Marsden said.
Visitors were also able to see the Robinson Pelham diamond earrings given to Catherine by her parents for the wedding day, as well as her handmade silk shoes and the royal wedding cake designed by Fiona Cairns.
Money raised from ticket sales goes to the Royal Collection Trust, a charity that is in charge of the upkeep of more than a million artworks and valuables in the Queen’s hands.
