Jean Paul Gaultier's iconic his-and-hers fragrance duo is playing dress up this season. In pirate-themed collector's editions due to launch on January 26, Le Mâle and Classique are attired for adventure on the high seas.
The offbeat French brand certainly knows how to stand out from the crowd. While a host of other brands are busy promoting their new spring fragrances and eaux de toilette, trading in their winter scents for lighter formulas, Jean Paul Gaultier opted instead to transform its two signature fragrances into pirates.
Le Mâle and its feminine counterpart Classique take on a totally new look in the new collector's editions. The first wears its usual striped top, only in black and white and with slightly frayed edges. Of course, no pirate look would be complete without the skull and crossbones, which Le Mâle sports in red. Similarly, the women's fragrance dons a red and white striped dress, which is belted with a wide black band featuring the skull and crossbones.
The fragrances inside remain the same. Le Mâle combines peppermint, lavender, orange blossom and bergamot with a heart of vanilla and a woody accord. Classique, meanwhile, presents an accord of lemon, mandarin, bergamot and orange blossom over notes of jasmine, ginger, vanilla and cedar.
The two collector's editions go on sale January 26 in France. Price: €96 (around $109) for Classique (100ml) and €83 (around $94) for Le Mâle (125ml).
