The central agency for public mobilisation and statistics announced, Wednesday, that the number of tourists coming to Egypt from around the world, has increased to reach to 75 percent.
The number of tourists reached 927,000 tourists during March 2012, compared to 535,000 tourists during March 2011. This significant increase is because numbers were very low in March 2011, the month which followed the January 25 revolution. Despite the significant increase in 2012, levels did not reach the number of tourists who visited Egypt during the month of March 2010 (1.3 million tourists).
The agency stated, in the monthly Tourism Bulletin, that tourists from Western Europe ranked first among visitors, followed by Eastern Europe.
The number of tourists from Arab countries reached 174,000 during March 2012, compared to 116,000 during March 2011, which is an increase of 50.2 percent.
The nights spent by tourists from Arab countries numbered 2.4 million during March 2012, compared to 839,000 nights in March 2011, which is an increase of 183.4.
The agency referred to the increase in nights spent by departing tourists as reaching 146 percent , numbering 10.2 million nights during March 2012 compared to 4.1 million nights during March 2011, while 11.8 million nights during March 2010.
