In 2010, the organization raised over £130,000 London - Arabstoday Cycling4Gaza, a charitable foundation that was founded in the wake of the 2009 war on Gaza, will be leading a charity bike ride from Ancient Olympia to Athens, this October. This is the third year the event will take place
. The ride aims to raise money and increases awareness of the on-going humanitarian crisis in Gaza.At the 2010 event, there were riders from UK, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Scotland, and Iraq, and £130,000 was raised.
The 2011 challenge will see the group cycling from Ancient Olympia to Athens in Greece, covering over 350km in 3 days. The challenge will begin in Olympia on the 19th of October, ending at the Kallimarmaro Stadium in Athens on the 22nd of October. This year, organisers hope to bring together 35 cyclists from all over the world to take part in the challenge. The recruitment process has already begun.
\"We would love to hear from anyone who is interested in signing up for the challenge.\" Organiser Tamara Ben-Halim said Wednesday.
She reminded potential participants that \"if we can do it, so can you!
\"This is a charity cycle, and of course it will be challenging, but is meant for beginner and intermediate cyclists.\"
Cycling4Gaza\'s fundraising target this year is £200,000.
All of the funds raised will go towards supporting children seriously injured or disabled in the conflict through one of the core programs of the Welfare Association - the Gaza Community-Based Rehabilitation Programme to support children\'s urgent health and educational needs.
