Cairo – Akram Ali
The central agency for public mobilisation and statistics, announced, Sunday, the increase in the number of tourists coming to Egypt during the month of February 2012, was 257 percent.
The number of tourists coming from all over the world reached 753,000 tourists during February 2012, compared to 211,000 tourists during February 2011. This significant increase is because numbers were very low in February 2011, the month following the January 25 revolution. Despite the significant increase in 2012, the levels did not reach the number of tourists who visited Egypt during the month of February 2010 (1.1 million tourists).
The agency, stated, in the monthly Tourism Buletin, that tourists from Western Europe ranked first among visitors, followed by Eastern Europe.
The number of tourists from Arab countries reached 143,000 during February 2012, compared to 43,000 during February 2011, which is an increase of 235.6 percent. The nights spent by tourists from Arab countries numbered at 2.4 million during February 2012, compared to 905,200 nights in February 2011, which is an increase of 161.9 percent.
