Looking for a summer vacation that won’t break the break? Consider Hanoi, Vietnam, which came out on top as the most affordable international destination in TripAdvisor’s annual TripIndex report.
Created to help travelers plan and budget their summer holiday, the TripIndex looks at the average cost of a three-night trip in 60 key tourist cities around the world.
Costs include hotel, attractions, a round-trip taxi ride, lunch and dinner.
This year, Southeast Asia emerged the world’s most affordable region, with Hanoi, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Manila taking four spots on the of the top 10 list.
Overall, the cost of traveling throughout the region averages 28 percent less (or $320 USD) than Dallas, the cheapest US city on the TripIndex.
For travelers on a budget, consider Hanoi, Vietnam, for example, where a three night-stay clocks in at about $732 USD per couple, or $366 per person.
Dinner in the Vietnamese capital averages $45 per couple, while a one-night stay at a four-star hotel is $87.
Rounding out the top five spots on the cheapest destinations list is Warsaw, Poland, Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, Bangkok and Mumbai.
Meanwhile, a separate top 10 list of most affordable US destinations put Dallas, Texas at the top of heap, for averaging $1,170 or $585 per traveling couple.
The list also reveals that those with tight budgets may want to avoid cities like Seattle and Cancun, Mexico, which emerged the priciest destinations in the US and the world, respectively.
In general, cities in the southern half of the US are most affordable, while the US west coast emerged the most expensive.
